-Why did Emmanuel say."for they know not what they do".in.Luke 23:34 "Then said Emmanuel, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment and cast lots.")?
The verse could just as easily been translated."for they do not understand why they are like that".(or,."are the way they are").and would have been more accurate; for they were aware of what they were doing, but didn't understand why this felt like the correct course of action to follow.
