...The Old Testament had
instructions for the Israelite society then. Among all the other instructions
God then gave, instructions as to witchcraft
applied. People into witchcraft believe in their craft and not in their
Creator. Belief is an important thing.
The principles contained
within a part of the Mosaic Law were and still
are basically fine principles for society
to follow in their relationships with each other. Too bad some preachers
do not stop engaging in modern witchcraft!
Deuteronomy
18:10-12 "There shall not be found among you any one that makes his
son or his daughter
to pass
through the fire, or that uses divination
or an observer of times
or an enchanter or a witch
or a charmer or a consulter
with familiar spirits or a wizard
or a necromancer."
2Chronicles
33:6 "And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley
of the son of Hinnom. Also he observed times and used enchantments and
used witchcraft and dealt with a familiar spirit.(one
that a person knows, such as the alleged
spirit of a dead person).and
with wizards. He wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke
him to anger."
Deuteronomy
18:21,22 "And if thou say in your heart, How shall we know the word
which the Lord has not spoken? When a prophet speaks in the name of the
Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which
the Lord has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously.
You shall not be afraid of him."
There were always many forms
of witchcraft.(2Kings
9:22; again,
Deuteronomy
18:10-12 or just above; Daniel 4:7;
Isaiah
2:6).and
people who would place a curse upon another or become psychics:.Acts
16:16 "And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel
possessed with a spirit of divination
met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.(predictionists,
a psychic)."
Daniel
2:27,28 "Daniel answered in the presence
of the king and said: The secret which the king has demanded cannot the
wise men, the astrologers, the magicians,
the soothsayers, show unto the king? But there is a God in heaven that
reveals secrets and makes known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be
in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of thy head upon thy bed,
are these....."
-What
does God think about it all?
Some believe that God passes
curses on to succeeding generations. Does
He?
