a study conducted among 47,909 men between ages 40 and 75, researchers
at Harvard University observed people who ate five servings or more per

is critical.
A recent study suggests this
protective effect is due to the crucifers' extremely high content in isothiocyanates,
molecules that play a very important role in the elimination of toxic substances
from the body. In this study, New Zealand researchers examined the impact
of young broccoli shoots, a rich source of isothiocyanates, on the development
of bladder cancer caused by a powerful carcinogenic substance. Researchers
observed the formation of these tumours was significantly reduced in animals
whose diet contained broccoli. This protective effect appears to be due
to the presence of high concentrations of broccoli's antincancer molecules
in the bladder area, protecting this organ's cells by producing a substantial

women who are at high risk for breast cancer are regularly pushed to start
mammograms at a younger age -- as early as 25 -- and that means they are
exposed to more radiation from mammography earlier and for more years than
women who don't have breast cancer in their family trees.
A Johns Hopkins study published
earlier this year in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute
warned radiation exposure from annual mammograms could trigger breast malignancies
in women with a strong family history of breast and/or ovarian cancers
who have altered genes, identified as BRCA1 or BRCA2.
