The word 'disciple' in the original means 'a pupil', a 'learner'. Learn what?.John 8:31 "Then said Emmanuel to those of the tribe of Judah which believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples.indeed." Luke 8:19-21 "Then came to him his mother and his brethren and could not come at him for the press. And it was told him by certain which said, Your mother and your brethren stand without, desiring to see you. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God and do it." John 13:35. "By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.".A disciple therefore is a learner of love. 

Disciples practice bearing fruit:.John 15:8 "Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, because in this.(or, because by doing this).you are my disciples."

Disciples are those in alignment with God.

If we too are learners of love, we then are disciples:.John 12:26. Like those who had to learn to be prophets in the Old Testament, we too, in this New Testament era, need to learn what Emmanuel taught his disciples about believing.
