-What is the sin
that's."not
unto death".spoken
of in 1John 5:17 and just how does
this square with Romans 6:23?
It is talking here about
a sincere brother or sister.(Galatians
3:26,28).in
Christ.(1John
5:16), one who has accepted Christ,
yet still thinks he or she is unrighteous,
thus retrogressing:.Matthew
12:31; 2Peter 2:20-22; Hebrews
6:4-6.
In verse 16, the sin unto.death
would be a person having truth, yet stupid enough to allow his back to
turn from it to go and live his stubbornly
selfish little temporary life, thus endangering a great reward.
It says to tell such a brother
"What are you doing? How you are living is hardly conducive
toward expressing more of God's love in you?" It is talking of one who
is slipping from the high calling.(Philippians
3:14).like
some in Galatia were:.Galatians
3:1 "O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched
you, that you should not obey.(original
Greek for word 'obey' is 'not being continually persuaded
of' or, a being led away by).the
truth, before whose eyes Emmanuel the Christ has been evidently set forth,
crucified among you?"
What use is it to pray for
a person who stubbornly goes along in his own way:.Proverbs
14:12. Sin means 'missing the mark'. There are different ways to miss
the mark. One is more serious than the other. The principle would then
be that of degrees,
like
that of murder.
1John 5:17 here is talking
about one who, having salvation.(the
Kingdom
Of God).as
a gift.(*).of
His
belief in and acceptance of Emmanuel Christ
and does not turn his back on the spiritual loving nature of Christ he
has, yet negligently
allows fables
to affect his belief regarding his righteous,
perfect,
holy
and pure state in God, thus hindering
his relationship with God.
Believing that one is unrighteous
necessitates
a sincere but
misguided
believer to focus on works to get him/herself and/or keep him/herself right
with God.
His or her efforts are then
towards self, trying to do by
works what Christ has provided as a free gift:.Romans
5:17.
Feeling one is unrighteous
is missing the mark of the whole purpose of why
Christ came and in ignorance
and in essence,
kicking Christ out of one's life.
Feeling that one is unrighteous
in God's eyes causes lackluster
performance, that's one reason some people give up on God as many did in
Old Testament times:.Jeremiah
44:16,17. This would be tantamount
to a."sin not
unto death", for if one could get a higher
reward, he or she would be slipping from that goal.
Once in Christ, works are
directed towards getting the highest possible reward
that one can possibly attain.
Ezekiel
18:30-32 "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel.(who
is 'Israel' today?), every one
according to his ways, says the Lord.(what
does 'Lord' mean?).God.(what
does 'God' mean?)..
Repent.(change).and
turn
yourselves from all
your transgressions, so iniquity.(original
Hebrew 'being bent out of the
way').shall
not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby you
have transgressed and make you
a new heart and a new spirit.(decide
to now have the nature of love), for
why will you die, O house of Israel?
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies, says the Lord God.
Wherefore turn yourselves and live you.".(?)
