God isn't out to punish anyone, see John 3:17; mankind 'punishes' himself because automatic laws were set up so that we would learn and the automatic law set up is, a person reaps what he or she has sown; so why are the universal laws set up to work the way they do?).the world for their evil and the wicked for their iniquity.(what are the bad things to avoid putting into our character?).and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.(original implies, 'those proud of their power').
