John
20:1 The first day of the week came Mary Magdalene early when it was
yet dark, unto the sepulchre.(an
above ground burial vault).and
saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
John
20:2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple
whom Emmanuel loved.(this
was John).and said unto them,
They have taken away the Lord
out of the sepulchre.(a
usually above ground burial vault).and
we know not where they have laid him.
John
20:3 Peter therefore went forth and that other disciple.(John).and
came to the sepulchre.
John
20:4 So they ran both together and the other disciple did outrun Peter
and came first to the sepulchre.
John
20:5-9 And he stooping down and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying,
yet went he not in. Then came Simon Peter following him and went into the
sepulchre and saw the linen clothes lie and the napkin that was about his
head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place
by itself.(John
11:43,44). Then went in also that other disciple, which
came first to the sepulchre and he saw and believed. For as yet they knew
not the scripture, that he must rise again.(word
'again' not in original).from
the dead..(*)
John
20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
John
20:11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping. And as she wept,
she stooped down and looked into the sepulchre,
John
20:12 And seeing two angels in white sitting, the one at the head and
the other at the feet, where the body of Emmanuel had lain.
John
20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said unto
them, Because they have taken away my Lord and I know not where they have
laid him.
John
20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back and saw Emmanuel
standing and knew not that it was Emmanuel.
John
20:15 Emmanuel said unto her, Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you
seek? She, supposing him to be the gardener said unto him, Sir if you have
borne him hence, tell me where you have laid him and I will take him away.
John
20:16 Emmanuel said unto her, Mary. She turned herself and said unto
him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.(a
term meaning great respect).
John
20:17 Emmanuel said unto her, Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended
to my Father, but go to my brethren and say unto them, I
ascend unto my Father and your
Father and to my God and your God.
John
20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples.(Matthew
10:1).that she had seen
the Lord
and that he had spoken these
things unto her.
John
20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week,
when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of
those calling
themselves Jews, came Emmanuel and stood in the midst and said unto
them, Peace be unto you.
John
20:20 And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his
side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
John
20:21 Then said Emmanuel to them again, Peace be unto you. As my Father
has sent me, even so send I you.
John
20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said unto
them, Receive you the Holy Ghost.
Note
that water baptism wasn't mentioned to them as a prerequisite
to receiving the Holy Ghost.
John
20:23 Whose soever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them and
whose soever sins you retain they are retained.
They
had the ability to determine who they wished to pass the power of God onto.
A big responsibility!
John
20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus.(the
surname
of Thomas), was not with them when Emmanuel came.
John
20:25 The other disciples
therefore said unto him, We have seen the
Lord. But he.(Thomas).said
unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails.(from
Him
being crucified).and put
my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side,
I will not believe.
John
20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within and Thomas
with them. Then came Emmanuel, the doors being shut and stood in the midst.(Emmanuel
materialized
right there in the room).and
said, Peace be unto you.
John
20:27 Then said he to Thomas, Reach hither
your finger and behold.(take
notice of).my hands and reach
hither your hand and thrust it into my side and be not faithless, but believing.
Christ
had gone to what is called heaven to be received of the Father and came
back. They now could touch him and because He was translucent,
they could put their hand right through Him: verse 17 above and Acts
1:3.
John
20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
John
20:29 Emmanuel said unto him, Thomas, because you have seen
me, you have believed. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have
believed.
Hebrews
11:13 "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but
having seen them afar off and were persuaded of them and embraced
them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the Earth."
1Peter
1:8 "Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him
not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory."
Colossians
1:15 "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every
creature."
This scripture
shows there was a blessing, a deep knowing, a sureness not based on having
to physically experience something first, in those who 'saw' by faith,
that is, they just knew and that because their minds were on God when there
were anomalistic.circumstances
to consider. Today we call it our 'gut feeling'. And what
about that?
John
20:30 And many other signs truly did Emmanuel in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book.
Why
He did all that was because He wanted His disciples to know He
came from God and that He cared for others, having compassion on them.
He wasn't yet in the position of taking care of all humanity, but now He
is:.Romans
11:26; 1Timothy 2:4; 2Timothy
1:9.
John
20:31 But these are written that you might believe.(1Corinthians
10:11).that Emmanuel
is the Christ
the Son of God.(*).and
that believing.(1John
2:23; 5:13).you
might have life through his name.
What's
His name mean?
What life through
His name?.John
10:10.
1John
3:22;
Acts 20:35.
