-Breastplate
of Righteousness:.The
'breastplate of righteousness' or 'judgment'
symbolizes.Israel's
12 tribes accepted on the ground of the high priest's sacrificial intercession
before God:.Exodus
35:27.
-Urim
and Thummim:.What
the 'Urim and Thummim' were cannot be determined with any certainty. 'Thummim'
appears to express perfection, 'Urim' lights. All we certainly know is
that they were a divinely
given means by which God imparted, through the high priest, direction and
counsel to the ancient
Israelites when these were needed. The method by which this was done can
be
only a matter of mere conjecture.
Israel's perfect
justification
in "the Lord her righteousness" is symbolized:.Isaiah
60:1-3; 62:1,2.
It was some sort of a guidance
system, akin
to Ask Suby today:.Numbers
27:21; 1Samuel 28:6.
Urim and Thummin were apparently
material objects, quite distinct from the
breastplate, but something added to it after all the stones.(analogy
for the new covenant).had
been set in it:.Levitucus
8:8. It was something in addition to the breastplate and its jewels,
probably in a pouch placed behind the breastplate close to the heart of
the high priest:.Exodus
28:30. It may also have been a reminder to the high priest of the sure
word of God.
The Urim may have reference
to lights and protection in the original meaning, perhaps a symbol for
the Holy Spirit and truth of God. The Thummim in the original Hebrew means
'perfection', 'completeness', 'integrity', 'uprightness'.
They may have been, as some
suppose, two small images, like the teraphim.(Judges
17:5), which were kept in the pouch.
When there was a need for guidance in the Old Testament, the high priest
would speak to the pouch to see if the Urim glowed which meant a yes answer
from God. Lesson: learn to live by the inner glow of the Holy
Spirit, which is the nature of love the Infinite One has. This nature
of love can be our nature.
The Urim and Thummin were
probably lost at the destruction of the temple by Nebuchadnezzar.
They were never seen after the return from the captivity:.2Chronicles
36:10..(see.Easton's
Bible Dictionary.for
more).
-Uzziah:.2Chronicles
26:1. He is also known as Azariah:.2Kings
15:1-7; 1Chronicles 3:12-14.
Uzziah was 11th king of Judah
and son of Amaziah:.2Kings
14:21; 15:1-3. He began to
reign in B.C.E. 806 at sixteen
years of age and reigned 52 years. His son was Jotham:.2Kings
15:32 "In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel
began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign.
Uzziah got much help from
the Creator influencing those around him until his ego
played a larger part in his life:.2Chronicles
26:15,16 "And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men,
to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones
withal. And his name spread far abroad, for he was marvelously
helped.(2Chronicles
26:5,7),.till
he was strong. But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his
destruction..."
The first part of his reign
was prosperous and happy, but afterwards he became presumptuous:.2Chronicles
26:5 "And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding
in the visions of God and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to
prosper."
But an act of presumptuousness
brought leprosy
upon him:.2Chronicles
26:19-21.
2Kings
15:7 "So Azariah
slept with his fathers and they buried him with his fathers in the city
of David and Jotham
his son reigned in his stead."
