-Elam,
Elamites: comprised with the Online
Bible dictionaries: The inhabitants of Elam.(in
today's Iraq).or
'the Highlands,' to the east of Babylon, were called Elamites. Elam extended
to the shore of the Mediterranean, a distance in a direct line of about
1,000 miles. The name Elam is an Assyrian word meaning 'high'.
The nation of Elam existed
from the time of the beginning of humanity on Earth. It was one of the
first nations. They were descedants of Elam, who was a son of Shem. Shem
was one of Noah's three sons:.Genesis
10:1,22.
Babylonia
was frequently invaded by the Elamite kings, who at times asserted their
supremacy over it as in the case of Chedorlaomer,
king of Elam in the time of Abraham.
Ancient Babylon today is
in Iraq. They were divided into several branches, speaking different dialects
of the same language.
The later Assyrian monarchs
made several campaigns against Elam and finally Assur-bani-pal in about
B.C.E.
650 succeeded in conquering the country, which was ravaged with fire and
sword. On the fall of the
Assyrian
Empire, Elam passed into the hands of the Persians.
-Ephraim/Ephraimites:.Israel
as used in
the Bible today.refers
to spiritual persons and Ephraim is used to denote
those of spiritual
Israel, those in Christ.,
those who become open to what has been called the covenant God made with
Abraham, which stands today.
The words Israel and Ephraim
refer to the same thing, an important portion of the ancient nation of
Israel that was Ephraim. The line was Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.(whose
name was changed to the
name Israel).and
Joseph, whose sons were Ephraim and Manasseh.
Ephraim came to be a general
name for those of ancient Israel.
The ancient lineage
is Abraham, Issac,
Jacob, Joseph. Ephraim was youngest son of Joseph.
Joseph's other son was Manasseh.
Genesis
41:50-52 "And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine
came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.
And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh,
For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house.
And the name of the second called he Ephraim,
For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction."
Genesis
48:1 "...he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim."
Jacob's
name was changed to Israel. He was the grandson of Abraham.
Manasseh
was older brother of Ephraim.
Manasseh and Ephraim's father was Joseph. The promises God inspired Jacob,
grandfather of Ephraim and Manasseh to confer,
have throughout history been fulfilled in the nations of Englans.(Ephraim).and
the United States of America.(Manasseh):.Genesis
48:9-20; Galatians
3:6-9.
England abrogated
her empire physically but continued it financially.(see
Empire
of the City; type into an Internet search engine).
Ancient Ephraim had the wrong
kind of pride which led to its downfall:.Judges
12:1-6.
Easton's
Bble Dictionary:.Mount
Ephraim was the central mountainous district
of Palestine occupied by the tribe
of Ephraim extending from Bethel to the plain of Jezreel. In Joshua's
time these hills were densely wooded. They were intersected by well-watered,
fertile valleys. Joshua
was buried at Timnathheres among the mountains of Ephraim on the north
side of the hill of Gaash:.Judges
2:8,9. This region in the Bible is also called the 'mountains
of Israel' and the 'mountains of Samaria'.
American
Tract Society Bible Dictionary: Manasseh was the eldest son of
Joseph, born in Egypt from a woman named Asenath given to him by the reigning
pharaoh
at the time:.Genesis
41:44,45.
Manasseh's descendants constituted
a full tribe. This was divided in the promised land.(Numbers
13:18-21), one part having settled
east of the Jordan river
in the country of Bashan, from the river
Jabbok northwards. And the other part, were west of the
Jordan
and between the tribes
of Ephraim and Issachar, which extended from the Jordan river to the
Mediterranean.(map):.Numbers
34:13-15. Bashan was far inferior to the land of Ephraim in wealth
and power of its people. History has balanced that with Manasseh becoming
much larger and more powerful than Ephraim.
Eastons's
Bible Dictionary: Jabbok menans 'a pouring out', one of the streams
on the east of Jordan, into which it falls about midway between the Sea
of Galilee and the Dead Sea
or about 45 miles below the Sea of Galilee. It rises on the eastern side
of the mountains of Gilead and runs a course of about 65 miles in a wild
and deep ravine. It was the boundary between the territory of the Ammonites
and that of Og, king of Bashan:.Joshua
12:1-5. It also runs between the tribe of Reuben and the half tribe
of Manasseh. In its course westward across the plains it passes more than
once underground. The scenery along its banks is probably the most picturesque
in Palestine and the ruins of town and village and fortress which stud
the surrounding mountainside render the country as interesting as it is
beautiful. This river is now called the Zerka, the blue river.
