Numbers
13:1,2 And the Lord spake unto Moses,
saying, Send men that they may search the land of Canaan.(map),
which I give unto the children of Israel.
Of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a ruler
among them.
Numbers
13:16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the
land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
Numbers
13:17 And Moses sent them to spy
out the land of Canaan
and said unto them, Get you up this way southward and go up into the mountain.
Numbers
13:18-21 And see the land, what it is and the people that dwell therein,
whether they be strong or weak, few or many and what the land is that they
dwell in, whether it be good or bad and what cities there be that they
dwell in the area and whether the people live in tents or in strong holds
and what the land is like, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be
wood therein or not. And be you of good courage and bring of the fruit
of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.
How
good was this place?.verse
27.
Numbers
13:21 So they went up and searched the land from the wilderness of
Zin.(the
south-eastern corner of the desert et-Tih, the wilderness of Paran, between
the Gulf of Akabah and the head of the Wady Guraiyeh).unto
Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
Numbers
13:22 And they ascended by the south and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman,
Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak,
were. Now Hebron was built seven
years before.Zoan.in
Egypt.
Zoan,
also know as Tanis, was a city in Egypt
whose ancient name was Kiriath-arba and according to Hebrew
writers, so called because four patriarchs,
Abraham,
Isaac,
Jacob
and Adam were buried there; according to Joshua
15:13 it was named after Arba, an ancestor of the Anakim
and founder of the city of Hebron, to which he gave its ancient name.
Numbers
13:23,24 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol and cut down from thence
a branch with one cluster of grapes and they bare it between two upon a
staff and they brought of the pomegranates and of the figs. The place was
called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children
of Israel cut down from thence.
Numbers
13:25,26 And they returned from searching of the land.(this
was the land of Canaan).after
forty days. And they went and came to Moses
and to Aaron and to all the congregation
of the children of Israel,
unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh and brought back word unto them
and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
Numbers
13:27 And they told him and said, We came unto the land.(Deuteronomy
8:7-9; 34:1-5).whither
you sent us and surely it flows with milk and honey and this is the fruit
of it.
Was
a fertile land
with many advantages
for settling
there. This was the beautiful land the only true God wanted humanity to
inhabit, but they had to rid
the land of the genetically
modified 'mankind' ones.
Numbers
13:28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land and
the cities are walled and very great and moreover, we saw the children
of Anak there.
These
were demonic.evil
huge beings who ate humans.
Numbers
13:29 The Amalekites dwell
in the land of the south and the Hittites
and the Jebusites and the
Amorites dwell in the mountains and the Canaanites
dwell by the sea and by the coast of Jordan.(map).
Numbers
13:30-32 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses
and said, Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to
overcome it. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to
go up against the people, for they are stronger than we. And they brought
up an evil report of the land which they had searched on behalf of the
rest of the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have
gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof.(ready
to war with any opposing them and the land would require work to set up,
protect and maintain).and all
the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
Numbers
13:33 And there we saw the giants,
the sons of Anak, which come of the giants. And we were in our own sight
as grasshoppers and so we were in their sight.
Numbers
14:2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against
Aaron and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had
died in the land of Egypt!.(where
they were in captivity for 430 years:.Isaiah
10:20,21).or would God we
had died in this wilderness!.(Moses,
you brought us out here to die!)
Numbers
14:3,4 And wherefore has the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall
by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Were it
not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, Let
us make a captain and let us return into Egypt.
Numbers
14:5-7 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly
of the congregation of the children of Israel. And Joshua the son of Nun
and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land,
rent
their clothes. And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel,
saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding
good land.
Numbers
14:8 If God delight in us, then he will bring us into this land and
give to us this land which flows with milk and honey.(original
'fatness' and the sweetness of honey; it was a lush
land).
Numbers
14:9 Only rebel not you against the Lord, neither fear you the people
of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defence is departed from
them and the Lord is with us. Fear them not.
Numbers
14:11-13 And God said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke
me and how long will it be ere
they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them? I will
smite them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of you
a greater nation and mightier than they. And Moses said unto the God, Then
the Egyptians shall hear it, for you brought up this people in your might
from among them;
Numbers
14:14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. For they
have heard that you Lord
are among this people, that you God are seen face to face and that your
cloud stands over them and that you have gone before them by day time in
a pillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night.
Numbers
14:15-17 Now if you kill all this people as one man, then the nations
which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying, Because God was not
able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore
he has slain them in the wilderness. And now, I beseech you, let your power
be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
Numbers
14:18 God is longsuffering.(patient;.Isaiah
13:11).and of great
mercy.(*),
forgiving iniquity and transgression and by no means clearing the guilty.(one
reaps what they may have sown, because they walked away in their mind from
the spiritual state they came here with:.2Timothy
1:9), visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children.(?).unto
the third and fourth generation.(that
is, the generations to come of those that hate God:.Exodus
20:5; Deuteronomy 5:9; Jeremiah
44:16,17; see also verse 20 below).
Numbers
14:19 Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according
unto the greatness of your mercy and as you have forgiven this people,
from Egypt even until now.
Moses
cared for the people and prayed to God for His mercy to be applied to them:.verses
11-20.
Numbers
14:20 And God said, I have pardoned according to your word.
Numbers
14:21 But as truly as I live, all the Earth shall be filled with the
glory of the Lord.
Numbers
14:22 Because all those men.(the
many thousands including Moses and
his brother Aaron, their leaders:.Numbers
20:12; 32:11,12).which
have seen my glory and my miracles which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness
and have tempted me now these ten times.(there
was no ten times; it means 'frequently', 'many times' and to the point
of giving up on them, because God was fed up with them constantly shoving
God away to fulfil their own selfishnesses, instead of using the tools
of God to get the good promised to them; what
were the tools?).and have
not hearkened.(*).to
my voice.
After
all they had experienced of God protecting them, they still didn't believe
God would continue doing it. So, it's important to be
sincere about learning.
and remembering. They said yes, because they wanted something better than
they had in captivity in Egypt, but they
had no heart to even begin to mean it sincerely.
Numbers
14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers,
neither shall any of them that provoked me.(Hebrews
3:8).see it.
Numbers
14:24 But my servant Caleb.(Numbers
32:11,12), because he had another spirit with him.(was
of a better consciousness.than
the rest; how was his consciousness better?.Romans
9:32).and has followed me
fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went and his seed shall
possess it.
Numbers
14:25 Now the Amalekites
and the Canaanites
dwelt in the valley. Tomorrow turn you and get you into the wilderness
by the way of the Red sea.
Numbers
14:26 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
Numbers
14:27-29 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur
against me? I have heard the murmurings
of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. Say unto them,
As truly as I live, says the Lord, as you have spoken in mine ears, so
will I do to you. Your carcases
shall fall in this wilderness of all that were numbered of you, according
to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured
against me.
God
responded to what the people negatively were complaining about:.Numbers
21:5.
Numbers
14:30 Doubtless you shall not come into the land, concerning which
I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb
the son of Jephunneh and Joshua
the son of Nun.
Numbers 14:31-33 But your little ones, which you
said should be a prey, them will I bring in and they shall know the land
which you have despised. But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall
in this wilderness. And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty
years and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Numbers
14:31-33 But your little ones, which you said should be a prey, them
will I bring in and they shall know the land which you have despised.
But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. And
your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years.(another
40 years; this time the children of those who came out of Egypt in the
original group, their fathers were bitter
all the previous 40 years or one generation, which they were in the wilderness;
they would not be going into the promised land {Numbers
13:25-28}, but their children would be; but the children were going
to get 40 years so the lesson of why their parents could not go to this
promised land would be known and remembered by the children to be because
of their parents evil ways in turning from the God who wanted to give them
everything good; the parents couldn't go because they wouldn't listen to
God and they weren't interested in listening because they just didn't believe
God:.Exodus
20:5: Numbers 14:22).and
bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Numbers
14:34 After the number of the days in which you searched the land,
even forty days, each day for a year, shall you bear your iniquities, even
forty years and you shall know my breach of promise.
Original
for "breach of promise" is 'my withdrawals', 'my turning away'. In othe
words, it'll take around 40 years to learn the lesson. They breached
the promise of God by not believing what God promised them.
Numbers
14:35 I God said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation,
that are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be
consumed and there they shall die.
Numbers
14:36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land returned and
made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander
upon the land.
The
slander was
'the land Moses brought us out of Egypt to go into, is no good'. They didn't
consider that God has the ability to change a meager
land into a good one and so it was a complaint against God because of their
unbelief. They just didn't truly know the
power of God and if they did, they didn't conduct themselves as though
they did.
Numbers
14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land,
died by the plague before God.
These
people back then just didn't trust God for anything good. They just wouldn't
get bthemselves in line with God's principles:.Jeremiah
6:15-17.
Numbers
14:38-42 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh,
which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. And Moses
told these sayings unto all the children of Israel and the people mourned
greatly. And they rose up early in the morning and gat
them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here and will go
up unto the place which God has promised, even though we have sinned. And
Moses said, Wherefore now do you transgress the commandment of the God?
but it shall not prosper.(Moses
was telling them 'by not being of a penitent heart and by still being determined
to go into the promised land when God said you're not going there, you
thusly are going
against God'). Go not up and be smitten before your enemies,
for God is not among you.
Moses
warned them but they didn't listen:.Deuteronomy
1:36-43.
Numbers
14:43 For the Amalekites
and the Canaanites
are there before you and you shall fall by the sword, because you are turned
away from God, therefore God will not be with you.
They
didn't listen. That
was their attitude?.Jeremiah
44:16,17.
Numbers
14:44 But they presumed
to go up unto the hill top.(*).
Nevertheless the
ark of the covenant of God.(Romans
14:7-9).and Moses,
departed not out of the camp.
Even
though some of these ancients were moving away from the things of God,
there remained a firm and resolute presence of God with them. The good
ones stayed. The bad ones didn't listen and did what they felt was
ok:.Proverbs
14:12. Similar today it is, with God being the base of us and all things,
that is, underneath it all.
And, you can easily prove this to yourself by considering what it is that
sustains you.
Numbers
14:45 Then the Amalekites came down and the Canaanites which dwelt
in that hill and smote them and discomfited them.(killed
some of them and beat others up), even unto Hormah.(kept
chasing after them all the way to the city of Hormah).
And
this was only about two years after God brought them out of captivity in
Egypt. They wanted the gods
they made, rather than the God that made them.
Numbers
15:14 And if a stranger.(who
were these strangers?).sojourn
with you or whosoever be among you in your generations and will offer an
offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto God; as you do, so he shall
do.
Numbers
15:15,16 One ordinance
shall be both for the congregation
and also for the
stranger that sojourns
with you, an ordinance forever in your generations. As you are, so shall
the stranger be before God. One law and one manner.(standard
of judgment based upon it, so it's fair for all:.Deuteronomy
32:4; compare.Exodus
33:19; Matthew 22:39).shall
be for you and for the the stranger that sojourns with you.
Numbers
15:20,21 You shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an
heave offering as you do the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall
you heave it. Of the first of your dough you shall give unto God an heave
offering in your generations.
Numbers
15:30 But the soul that does ought.presumptuously,
whether he be born in the land or a
stranger, the same reproaches.(he
or she is not in alignment
with love).the
Lordand
that soul shall be cut off from among his people.(and
that because of not being of love when all around he or she is of love;
such are they that don't learn good from the words and actions of others).
Numbers
15:31 Because he has despised
the word of God, he has laid charge upon himself.(because
the people then agreed to be good and not all were:.Exodus
24:3), that soul's iniquity is upon his own head.(*);
He
caused his own problem, because we reap
what we have sown. And this individual must also have known that he
could always have asked God for mercy, one of the attributes
of God's character:.Numbers
14:19. The other attributes
are here.
Numbers
15:32,33 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they
found a man that gathered sticks upon the
sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto
Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation.
Numbers
15:34 And they put him in
ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
Numbers 15:35,36 And the Lord said unto Moses,
The man shall be surely put to death. All the congregation shall stone
him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him
without the camp and stoned him with stones and he died as the Lord commanded
Moses.
Numbers
15:35,36 And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put
to death.(the
Old
Testament's over 600+
laws were rigid
and are thankfully completely
abolished; he was doing the work of gathering sticks to make a fire,
work that at this time, was not allowed under the Mosaic
Law on the sabbath day,
as it was a day where one's attentions were to be on God, a day of rest
and peace, so the people had an opportunity to grow spiritually, to read
about and share the things of
a higher consciousness than that they were used to the rest of the
week; one who profaned
the sabbath was showing disdain
for God as all had agreed in the land of Israel back then to all the terms
presented to them:.Exodus
19:7,8). All the congregation shall stone him with stones without
the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned
him with stones and he died as the Lord commanded Moses.(seems
cruel; is God cruel?).
Numbers
15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel and bid them that they make
them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations
and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue.
Numbers
15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe.(or,
the purpose of the fringe is), that you may look upon it
and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them and that you
seek
not after your own heart and your own eyes.(*),
after which you use to go a whoring.
They
were into their selfish ways that were the only way they knew, since they
kicked God away from them:.Proverbs
14:12; Jeremiah 44:16,17.
Numbers
15:40 That you may remember and do all my commandments and be holy
unto your God.
Numbers
16:1 Now Korah, the son
of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi and Dathan and Abiram, the
sons of Eliab and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men.
Numbers
16:2,3 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children
of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the
congregation, men of renown. And they gathered themselves together against
Moses and against Aaron and said unto
them, You take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy.(we're
all just as good as you and could lead this nation), every
one of them and the Lord is among them. Wherefore then lift you up yourselves
above the congregation of the Lord.(what
makes you think that you are greater than anyone elso here)?
These
rebellious.usurpers
were out to grab control from Moses:.1Samuel
12:6.
Numbers
16:4-7 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face. And he spake
unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even tomorrow the Lord will
show who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near unto him,
even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near unto him. This do,
take you censers, Korah and all his company and put fire therein and put
incense in them before the Lord tomorrow and it shall be that the man whom
the Lord does choose, he shall be holy.(you'll
see the one whom God wants over this nation). You take too
much upon you, you sons of Levi.(it's
you who are taking too much on you).
Numbers
16:8,9 And Moses said unto Korah,
Hear I pray you, you sons of Levi, does it seem a small thing unto you
that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel
to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the
Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
Numbers 16:10-15 And he has brought you near to
him and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you and yet you seek the
priesthood also? For which cause both you and all your company are gathered
together against the Lord. And what is Aaron, that you murmur against him?
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, which said,
We will not come up. Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out
of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness,
except you make yourself altogether a prince over us? Moreover you have
not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey or given us inheritance
of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will
not come up. And Moses was very wroth and said unto the Lord, Respect not
you their offering. I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I
hurt one of them.
Numbers
16:10-15 And he has brought you near to him and all your brethren the
sons of Levi with you, and seek you the priesthood also.(it
wasn't enough for you to remain in the position God gave you; they grasped
for more)? For which cause both you and all your company are gathered
together against the Lord. And what is Aaron, that you murmur against him.(your
finding fault with me and now Aaron; they were looking for some reason
to justify their rebellious actions)? And Moses sent to call Dathan
and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, which said, We will not come up.(they
too were against Moses). Is it a small thing that you have brought
us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey.(how
they compared their horrible life in Egypt to now being in the wilderness;
they conveniently forgot just how bad it was in their comparison with where
they now were), to kill us in the wilderness, except you make yourself
altogether a prince over us.(they
forgot who had placed Moses over them and accused him of jacking himself
up in selfishness)? Moreover you have not brought us into a land
that flows with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards.(they
continually complained and blamed Moses for what they didn't like about
their present situation). Will you put out the eyes of these men.(are
you Moses going to punish these men who are against you)? We will
not come up.(well, you
can count us out of supporting you). And Moses was very wroth and
said unto the Lord, Respect not you their offering. I have not taken one
ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.(I
have done nothing to cause them to act this way).
Numbers
16:16-21 And Moses said unto Korah, Be you and all your company before
the Lord, you and they and Aaron, tomorrow.(tomorrow
we will bring all this matter before God). And take every
man his censer and put incense in them and bring you before the Lord every
man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers, you also and Aaron, each
of you his censer. And they took every man his censer and put fire in them
and laid incense thereon and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation with Moses and Aaron. And Korah gathered all the congregation
against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the
glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation. And the Lord spake
unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from among this
congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.(God
was not pleased, to
say the least:.1Samuel
15:23)
Numbers
16:22 And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the
spirits of all flesh.(Hebrews
12:9), shall one man sin and will you be wrathful with
all the congregation?
The
story of this rebellion
against Moses begins in verse 1.
Numbers
16:23-29 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the congregation,
saying, Get you up from where you are and go to the tabernacle of Korah,
Dathan and Abiram.(their
tent was on the south side of the main tabernacle). And Moses
rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram and the elders of Israel followed
him. And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from
the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be
consumed in all their sins. So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah,
Dathan and Abiram, on every side and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood
in the door of their tents and their wives and their sons and their little
children. And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the Lord has sent
me to do all these works, for I have not done them of mine own mind. If
these men die the common death of all men, that is, being visited after
the visitation of all men, then the Lord has not sent me.
Numbers
16:30 But if the Lord make a new thing.(new
to men in the area this was to happen:.Ecclesiastes
1:9,10).and the Earth open
her mouth and swallow them up, with all that appertains
unto them and they go down quick into the pit, then you shall understand
that these men have provoked
the Lord.
They
lived as though they didn't care if God was around or not. Many back then
wanted nothing at all to do with God:.Jeremiah
44:16,17; Numbers 15:30,31.
Numbers
16:31-34 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all
these words, that the ground clave.asunder
that was under them. And the Earth opened her mouth and swallowed them
up and their houses and all the men that appertained
unto Korah and all their goods. They
and all that appertained to them went down alive into the pit and the Earth
closed upon them and they perished from among the congregation. And all
Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them, for they said,
Lest the Earth swallow us up also.
Numbers
16:35 And there came out a fire from the Lord and consumed the two
hundred and fifty men that offered incense.(why?
verse 40 below).
Numbers
16:36,37 And the Lord spake unto Moses,
saying, Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up
the censers out of the burning and scatter you the fire yonder,
for they are hallowed.
Numbers
16:38 The censers
of these sinners against their own souls.(these
were those who oppose
even themselves; self sabotage); let them make them broad
plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before the Lord,
therefore they are hallowed.(they
expected their religious physical practice would negate the results of
their actions, actions which showed their true heart was not right; they
were corrupt and hiding behind practices they believed would absolve
their actions). And they shall be a sign unto the children
of Israel.(a
sign that physical worship is useless if it's not from a heart loving God).
Numbers
16:39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen.(made
of brass).censers,
wherewith they that were burnt had offered and they were made broad plates
for a covering of the altar,
Numbers
16:40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger
which is not of the seed of Aaron.(why?),
come near to offer incense before the Lord, that he be not as Korah
and as his company, as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moses.
Numbers
16:41-45 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of
Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, You have killed
the people of the Lord.(they
had just decided to be against Moses no matter what and even after the
events of the previous day; they were one complaining people; people of
ordinary
consciousness just never seem to get the right message in anything).
And it came to pass when the congregation was gathered against Moses and
against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation
and behold, the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord appeared. And
Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation. And the
Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Get you up from among this congregation,
that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces..(God
had enough of the waywardness
of all of them)
Numbers
16:46-49 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer
and put fire therein from off the altar and put on incense
and go quickly unto the congregation
and make an atonement
for them. For there is wrath
gone out from the Lord.
