-old covenant:
A covenant is an agreement:.Deuteronomy
29:1,9; 30:19. The old
covenant in the Bible was the agreement involving various
rules and regulations of the Mosaic Law,
that God made with a physical nation.(ancient
Israel {of which the tribe of Judah [Jews] was but one of 12
tribes}).for physical blessings.(if
they kept what they agreed to:.Deuteronomy
28:1-14; Exodus 24:3)
and curses.(if they failed to
keep it:.Deuteronomy
28:15-68), involving the people's works in keeping all
God had laid down for them to follow; summed up in:.Deuteronomy
29:1,2,9 and 5:29. The
people just couldn't keep the
agreement with the ordinary
human natures they had and who could blame them. The agreement was:.Malachi
2:10.
The people became fed
up with God and wanted
a king to rule them like all the nations around them. They just lacked
the heart toward God.
This covenant had a fault too and by it the people
were also faulty:.Hebrews
8:7,8,13;
10:1. It was
not designed to be successful! It was designed to show how that with
only the ordinary consciousness, the people wanted all the Creator promised
to them, but they lacked the higher consciousness that would allow them
to reach to it and possess it. It was designed to show something greater
was needed. The people back then soon tired of the odious.600
plus regulations they had obligated
themselves by agreement to follow.
Never mind the regular people; this old covenant
could not even make the priests perfect, the priests God chose! It was
that bad:.Hebrews
9:9.
The Creator of course, foresaw all this and it
was the way it was supposed to be as part of the overall plan of the Creator
for humanity:.Romans
9:11. It was all to point to Christ, for He was the
New Covenant, as the 'be all, end all' for all time:.John
19:30; Romans 11:36; Colossians
1:17. More.
-Old Testament:
The section of the Bible before the birth of Emmanuel,
which is called the B.C.E.
part of history, as compared to the New
Testament, called the A.D.
part of history.
The Old Testament casts
its allegorical
shadow toward the New Testament. The Old Testament has to do with the normal
low consciousness of humanity, whereas
the New Testament is for depth of
spirituality. The Old Testament was mostly about physical regulations
of which there
were many.
The cabal
copied the idea of regulations to control people and took it to a whole
new level of people control, only this one of harm. How
many laws, rules, codes, regulations, statutes, mandates, etc. are
there now in all levels of government, local, municipal, regional, provincial/state,
federal and international?
The New Testament with the things of the spirit,
the heart.
The Old
Testament books contain among other things, the Mosaic
Law which if not kept perfectly, made one a sinner,
but there were provisions.in
the Mosaic Law for forgiveness.
How
so was the Old Testament valuable for us today?.Romans
15:4 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for
our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might
have hope." 2Peter 2:6 "...the cities
of Sodom and Gomorrha ..., making them an ensample unto those that after
should live unGodly."
The Old Testament supports
the entire Bible. Why
the Old Testament law?
Contrast the
New Testament, where the opposite is true; keeping the Old Testament
law made one a sinner as one would 'miss
the mark'.(the original
word meaning for 'sin').of Christ's
righteousness. In this era
of the New Testament and if on the side of keeping the commands of the
Old Testament, that were all done away in Christ,
one would be bringing a burden
upon himself, one's joy of living would be hampered
and his or her life would be as if it was cursed.
This was because what a person does, he or she
becomes:.Leviticus
18:5, "...keep my statutes and my judgments, which if a man do, he
lives in them..."
The entire Old Testament occurred and was recorded
so humanity could learn.(Romans
15:4).something. Learn
what?
The
chronology of the Old Testament is interesting to have a look at.
From
The
Free Bible: The Old Testament was written over a period of 1,400
years by about 32 writers, covering over 3,600 years of man's history.
It was penned by men of vastly different backgrounds, living in different
countries and in different ages. Many did not know each other and some
did not even know what the others had written. Yet when their writings
became one book, each perfectly harmonized
with the others, an indication that this Book of many writers has only
One Author, the Holy Ghost:.2Peter
1:21.
And the Bible comes with a
hidden code to tie all these separate writings together. Amazing!
Four hundred years separate the writing of the
last book of the Old Testament and the beginning of
the
New Testament.
The first five books of the.Bible.are
called
the Law.(they are also known
as the Torah or Pentateuch
and the 'books of Moses' and 'law of Moses')). Written by Moses
in the wilderness, these books receive their name because they record the
law God gave to Israel on mount Sinai. This was the now done away.(Hebrews
10:9).Mosaic
Law, also called the 'law of Moses', the
'book(s) of Moses' and the 'book(s)
of the law', all meaning the instructions back then God had communicated
to the man Moses.
Othniel:.name
means 'lion of God', the one of the first of the
judges. His wife Achsah was the daughter of Caleb.(see
Joshua
15:16,17; Judges 1:13).
He gained her hand as a reward for his bravery in leading a successful
expedition against Debir.(q.v.).
Some thirty years after the death of Joshua,
the Israelites fell under the subjection of Chushanrishathaim,
the king of Mesopotamia. He oppressed them for a full eight years, when
they "cried" unto God and Othniel was raised up to be their deliverer.
He was the younger brother of Caleb.
He is the only judge mentioned connected with the tribe of Judah, Judah
was yet to split
into its own nation until circa
B.C.E. 1020.
Under Othniel the land had rest forty years.
Judges
ruled Israel before Israel's division into two kingdoms, that then named
Israel
and Judah.
