-Og: King of Bashan. Contemporary with Moses, about B.C.E. 1400.

Og's territory, embracing 60 cities.(Deuteronomy 3:4), was conquered by Moses and the Israelites immediately after the conquest of Sihon, king of the Amorites

Og the giant king of Bashan descended from the Rephaim, the sons of Raphah, a race of giants who lived beyond the Jordan river.

The countryside of Bashan.(map).was and still is a rich hilly district lying east of the Jordan and between the mountains of Hermon on the north and those of Gilead and Ammon on the south. The country takes its name from its soft and sandy soil. It is celebrated in Scripture for its rich pasturage. Modern travelers describe the country as still abounding with verdant and fertile meadows, valleys traversed by refreshing streams, hills crowned with forests and pastures offering an abundance to the flocks that wander through them.

The ancient Israelities had their problems after coming out of 430 years of captivity to Egypt. King Og attacked Israel and king Sihon refused to allow the Israelites to pass through his land when they were on the way to the land God promised them.

Og should have been more considerate. He wasn't; not a good decision:.Numbers 21:33-35.

With the death of king Og, the last giant had passed from the Earth:.Deuteronomy 3:11 "For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants. Behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man."

Omri:.6th king of.Israel. He was previously a Philistine general and captain of king Elah's army. Omri succeeded Elah and reigned for 12 years, B.C.E. 930 to 918:.1Kings 16:16.

Omri was an evil king:.1Kings 16:25,26. Omri's son was the evil Ahab.

Beth-omri, 'the house' or 'city of Omri' is the name usually found on Assyrian inscriptions for Samaria. In the stele of Mesha, the 'Moabite stone', which was erected in Moab about twenty or thirty years after Omri's death. It is recorded that Omri oppressed Moab till Mesha delivered the land:.2Kings 1:1; 3:4,5. It is written as."Omri, king of Israel, oppressed Moab many days, for Chemosh was angry with his land. His son succeeded him and he also said, I will oppress Moab. Omri took the land of Medeba and occupied it in his day and in the days of his son forty years.(actually was 34 years)".

Omri resided at Tirzah:.1Kings 16:23-26.

1Kings 16:28 "So Omri slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria and Ahab his son reigned in his stead."

-Origen.(born Oregenes Adamantius).185-254 A.D. A Greek, born in Egypt who was a Christian writer, teacher, mystic.and philosopher known for his exacting interpretations of the Old Testament which was then contained in hexapla. His meticulous work, known for its criticality, was later condemned as unorthodox.

"Origen taught in the city of Alexandria, Egypt then settled at Caesarea.(a seaport of Palestine).and founded a school of literature, philosophy and theology. During the persecutions of the Christians in 250 A.D. under Emperor Decius, Origen was imprisoned and tortured. Released in 251, but weakened by injuries, he died about 254, probably in Tyre.

"Origen may well have been the most accomplished biblical scholar of the early church. His accomplishments as an exegete and student of the text of the Old Testament were outstanding. He was a voluminous writer whose works include letters, treatises in dogmatic and practical theology, apologetics, exegeses and textual criticism. Contra Celsum, meaning, Against Celsus, is a closely reasoned long work in apologetics refuting.arguments advanced by the philosopher Celsus, an influential 2nd-century Platonist of Alexandria and perhaps the first serious critic of Christianity.

"Origen is regarded as the father of the allegorical method of scriptural interpretation. He taught the principle of the threefold sense, corresponding to the threefold division of the person into body, spirit and soul, which was then a common concept. He was a Platonist and endeavored to combine Greek philosophy and the Christian religion. He developed the idea of Christ as the Logos, or Incarnate.Word, who is with the Father from eternity, but he taught also that the Son is subordinate to the Father in power and dignity. This latter doctrine and others, such as that of the preexistence of the soul, were severely criticized by many of Origen's contemporaries and by subsequent writers. Theories that were developed from his doctrines became the subject of considerable theological controversy during the Middle Ages."
