God seems to always keep a remnant of those having affinity for Him, in order that they may be able to carry on later:.2Chronicles 36:10.

From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. 2Samuel 15:31 And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Easton's Bible Dictionary: Ahithophel means 'brother of insipidity or impiety', a man greatly renowned for his sagacity among those of Judea. Judea is the land occupied by the the tribe of Judah. At the time of Absalom's revolt he deserted David (Psalms 41:9; 55:12-14) and espoused the cause of Absalom, David's son who was out to rend the land from king David:.2Samuel 15:12. David sent his old friend Hushai back to Absalom in order that he might counteract the counsel of Ahithophel as verses 31-37 here show. This end was so far headed toward David and against Absalom that Ahithophel saw he had no longer any influence and accordingly he at once left the camp of Absalom and returned to Giloh his native place, where after arranging his wordly affairs, he hanged himself and was buried in the sepulchre of his fathers:.2Samuel 17:1-23. He was the type of Judas:.Matthew 27:5.

2Samuel 15:32-37 And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent and earth upon his head.(a sign of anguish and mourning, a being very upset over something): Unto whom David said, If you are joining with me where we are going, then you shall be a burden unto me.(one more thing to worry about). But if you return to the city and say unto Absalom.(David's son who was against David at this time due to the influence ofAbsalom by the conspirator Ahithophel), I will be your servant, O king. As I have been your father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be your servant. Then may thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel. And have you not there with you Zadok and Abiathar the priests? Therefore it shall be that what thing soever you hear out of the king's house, you shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar’s son and by them you can send unto me every thing that you can hear. So Hushai David's friend came into the city and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
