Questions About Scriptures

Q u e s t i o n s..A b o u t..S c r i p t u r e s..N o t e s

-Romans 8:29: "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he.(those with His loving nature in them).might be the firstborn among many brethren."

-1Samuel 3:19,20 ".....let none of his words fall to the ground"
1Samuel 9:6 "And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God and he is an honourable man. All that he says comes surely to pass. Now let us go thither, peradventure he can show us our way that we should go."

-Matthew 10:14 "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust off your feet.".To."shake off the dust from one's feet".regarding another, is to acknowledge that his mind is tightly closed, so why be bothered with preaching the gospel to him?.Acts 13:50,51; 2Corinthians 4:3.

-fall of Jerusalem: from.Matthew Henry's Commentary:."Our Lord having gone with his disciples to the Mount of Olives. He set before them the order of the times concerning the Jews and  foretells the utter ruin and destruction coming upon the temple. He also foretells the destruction of Jerusalem.

"The disciples had asked concerning the times, when these things should be? Christ gave them no answer to that, but they had also asked, What shall be the sign? This question he answers fully. The prophecy first respects events near at hand, the destruction of Jerusalem, the end of the Jewish church and state, the calling of the Gentiles and the setting up of Christ's kingdom in the world, but it also looks to the general judgment and toward the close and points more particularly to the latter."

-oracles of God: From.Easton's Bible Dictionary:."In the Old Testament used in every case, except 2Samuel 16:23.(where it means the Word of Creator-God), to denote the most holy place in the temple.(1Kings 6:5,19-23; 8:6), where the ark held the tables of hewn stone.on which God had written the law the second time.

"A man inquired."at the oracle of God".by means of the Urim and Thummim in the breastplate on the high priest's ephod.(explained under Urim and Thummim)."

In the New Testament 'oracle' is used only in the plural and always denotes the Word of God.(Romans 3:2; Hebrews 5:12; etc.). The Scriptures are called."lively oracles".(compare Hebrews 4:12).because of their quickening power:.Acts 7:38."

-Philip, the apostle: From.Easton's Bible Dictionary:."Philip means 'lover of horses'. One of the twelve apostles; a native of Bethsaida "the city also of Andrew and Peter":.John 1:44..He readily responded to the call of Emmanuel when first addressed to him.(John 1:43).and forthwith brought Nathanael also to Emmanuel:.John 1:45,46. He seems to have held a prominent place among the apostles:.Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18; John 6:5-7; 12:21,22; 14:8,9; Acts 1:13. Of his later life nothing is certainly known. He is said to have preached in Phrygia and to have met his death at Hierapolis."

-Philip, the deacon: New and Concise Bible Dictionary: One of the seven chosen to look after the poor saints at Jerusalem:.Acts 6:1-7. He is also called Philip the evangelist. When the church was scattered from Jerusalem by persecution, Philip went to Samaria and preached Christ and wrought miracles and men and women believed and were baptised. The apostles at Jerusalem hearing that Samaria had received the word of God, sent thither Peter and John. Then Philip was directed by an angel of the Lord to meet the eunuch of Ethiopia.(Genesis 2:13).in the desert towards Gaza. Philip met him and preached unto him Emmanuel:.Acts 8:26-39. On the eunuch asking what hindered him from being baptized, he was at once baptized by Philip. On coming out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip and he was found at Azotus and he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea. Much later Philip was residing at Caesarea and received Paul and those with him into his house. He had four daughters, virgins, who prophesied. Philip is a beautiful instance of one being under the immediate guidance of God.
