About
Nahum
Nahum
1:1 The burden of Nineveh. The
book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
The
name 'Elkoshite', probably used to distinguish
him from others with the same name who may have lived back in his day.
Nahum
1:2.God
is jealous and revenges.(?).
God revenges and is furious taking vengeance on his adversaries and he
reserves wrath for his enemies.
Nahum
1:3 God is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all
acquit
the wicked who are steeped
in their wickedness.(1Timothy
4:2). God has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
In
other words, the true God of all creation and of all love, is
in complete control, even though we may not see it that way.
If God is in control of all, surely this includes
also the evil?
Genesis
15:16.
Nahum
1:6 Who can stand before his indignation?
And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out
like fire and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Revelation
6:15,16.
Nahum
1:7 The good.God
is a stronghold.(a
place of safety and protection).in
the day of trouble and he knows them that trust
in him.
2Timothy
2:15,16,19.
Nahum
1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the
place thereof and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Clarke's
Commentary: 'But with an overrunning flood', Bishop Newcome thinks
this may refer to the manner in which Nineveh was taken. The Euphrates
overflowed its banks, deluged
a part of the city and overturned twenty stadia (an ancient Roman unit
of length, equal to about 607 feet {185 meters} from which
comes the word stadium) of the wall, in consequence of which the desponding
king burnt himself and his palace with his treasures. ...Diodor, edited
by Wessel, page 140, library ii, section 27. Like today, most of the controllers
and rulers are not sane.
These psycopaths and sociopaths are the ones most people
trust.
Nahum
1:13 For now will I break his yoke from off you and will burst your
bonds in sunder.
Nahum
3:1 Woe to the bloody city!.(Nahum
1:1 above)).it is all full of
lies and robbery; the prey departs not.
Comprised
with.JFB
Commentary:."the
prey departs not", that is, Nineveh
never ceases to live by rapine.
The Hebrew
verb is transitive, 'she (Nineveh) does not make the prey depart', that
is, she ceases not to plunder.
Nahum
3:3 The horseman lifts up both the bright sword and the glittering
spear and there is a multitude of slain and a great number of carcases
and there is no end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses.
Nahum
3:4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot,
the mistress of witchcrafts, that sells nations through her whoredoms and
families through her witchcrafts.
They
even killed people if there's selfish advantage to be gained, like today
with the covid con's nonsense many fell
for.
Nahum
3:7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall
flee from thee and say, Nineveh is
laid waste, who will bemoan
her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
Nahum
3:8 Are you better than populous No.(this
city also mentioned in Jeremiah
46:25; Ezekiel 30:14),
that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it,
whose rampart was the sea and her
wall was from the sea?
Nahum
3:9 Ethiopia.(Genesis
10:6).and Egypt
were her strength and it was infinite; Put
and Lubim.(Libya).were
thy helpers.
Nahum
3:18,19 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria.
Your nobles shall dwell in the dust. Your people is scattered upon the
mountains and no man gathers them. There is no healing of your bruise.
Your wound is grievous. All that hear the bruit.(repeated
news).of you shall clap the
hands over you, for upon whom has not your wickedness passed continually?
