Matthew
19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto
him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Matthew
19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read, that he
which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Matthew
19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and
shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh?
Matthew
19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore
God has joined together let not man put asunder.
Matthew
19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing
of divorcement, and to put her away?
Matthew
19:8 He said unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts.(humanity
back then and also today didn't
see much value in a relationship beyond sex).suffered
you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it was not so..
After
being created (*),
humanity quickly headed onto the road of self and has been on that road
of destruction ever since.
Matthew
19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except
it be for fornication.(unfaithfulness
to the relationship).and
shall marry another, commits adultery and whoso marries her which is put
away also commits adultery.
Matthew
19:10 His disciples
say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good
to marry.
Matthew
19:11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save
they to whom it is given.
Matthew
19:12 For there are some eunuchs
which were so born from their mother's womb.(had
a special purpose to come here regarding the work
of God and not much interested in other things). And
there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men. And there be eunuchs,
which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake.(not
interested in sex). He that is able to receive it, let him
receive it.
Matthew
19:13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should
put his hands on them and pray and the disciples rebuked
them.
Matthew
19:14 But Emmanuel said, Suffer.(allow).little
children
and forbid them not to come unto me. For of such is the kingdom
of heaven.
The
disciples (students) of Emmanuel still had lots to learn from Him.
Matthew
19:15 And he laid his hands on them and departed thence.
Matthew
19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good
thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Matthew
19:17 And he said unto him, Why do you call me good? There is none
good but one.(?),
that is, God. But if you will enter into life, keep the
commandments.
The
Old
Testament.Mosaic
Law was still in effect at this time, because Emmanuel hadn't yet been
crucified
and resurrected.
Matthew
19:18 He said unto him, Which? Emmanuel said, You shall do no murder,
You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear
false witness.
Proverbs
12:17.
Matthew
19:19 Honour your father and your mother and, You shall love
your neighbour as thyself.
Matthew
19:20 The young man said unto him, All these things have I kept from
my youth up. What lack I yet?
Matthew
19:21 Emmanuel said unto him, If you will be perfect, go
and sell that you have and give to the poor and you shall have treasure
in heaven and come and follow me.
Comprehend
this scripture in
the light of.Mark
8:34.
Luke
12:33,34; 14:33. Emmanuel was
showing this young man to step ahead in life by living in faith that God
always provides.
Matthew
19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful,
for he had great possessions.
Matthew
19:23 Then said Emmanuel unto his disciples,
Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly
enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew
19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through
the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom
of God.

Notes: a proverbial
phrase, probably in common use at the time, expressing the obstacle possession
of riches has when trusted in, instead of God. 'Eye of the needle' was
an expression referring to the equipment & paraphernalia
camels often carried, where often it all would have to be removed in order
for the camel to bend down to crawl through areas where a hole in the rock
allowed passage through the mountains. The meaning in the verse being that
of unloading oneself of the involvement possessions and constant accumulation
of them can bring, burdening one down as the camel and making passage impossible
for it to continue on the path without shedding some of its burden. Rich
persons wealth is often too important to their ego to allow their attention
to be on spiritual/eternal matters.
Barnes
Notes: Why this verse on riches? 1st.
that riches engross the affections. 2nd.
Men consider wealth as the chief good and when this is obtained, often
thinks they have gained all. 3rd.
They are proud of their wealth and unwilling to be numbered with the poor
and despised followers of Emmanuel
(Jesus). 4th.
Riches engross the time and fill the mind with cares and anxieties leaving
little if any time for God:.Proverbs
16:8; 16:16; Psalms
62:10. 5th.
Riches often produce luxury, dissipation
and vice.
Matthew
19:25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying,
Who then can be saved?
What's
in store for those who are severely evil? Can they ever be made ok again?
Yes!
Matthew
19:26 But Emmanuel beheld them and said unto them, With men this is
impossible but with God all things are
possible.
Impossible
is just a stupid opinion. Well then,
how
is it possible?
Matthew
19:27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken
all and followed you. What shall we have therefore?
Matthew
19:28 And Emmanuel said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That you
which have followed me, in the
regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory,
you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes
of Israel.
Matthew
19:29 And every one that has forsaken houses or brethren or sisters
or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for my name's
sake, shall receive an hundredfold
and shall
inherit
everlasting life.
Matthew
19:30 But many that are first shall be last and the last shall be first.
This
verse should really be connected with the beginning of the next chapter.
