Matthew
3:1 In those days came John
the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Matthew
3:2 And saying, Repent.(original
means 'to comprehend';
to comprehend what? To think on your life so as to come to know what you
are here on Earth for, as most people involved in the physical life seldom
give this much if any, thought; in other words, don't just go through a
non thinking life, but apply your mind as to why
it is that you are here, so you come
to the good life as thousands of others have).you,
for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
When
is this? now!.1Timothy
2:4.
Matthew
3:3 For this is he.(who?.Matthew
11:14).that was spoken of
by the prophet Esaias.(Esaias
is the Greek form of name Isaiah).saying
The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare you the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.(that
is, prepare yourself by wanting to change your life for what the Lord would
have of you and what's that?)
Isaiah
40:3.
Matthew
3:4 And the same John had his raiment.(clothing).of
camel's hair and a leathern girdle.(like
a purse or knapsack).about
his
loins and his meat.(food).was
locusts
and wild honey.
This
was food and clothing of the most humble
kind. The idea of the verse is, that, like his great prototype.Elijah,
John the Baptist led a life of austerity
and self-denial. More on John
the Baptist.
Matthew
3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region
round about Jordan,
Was
this every single person who lived in these areas? No,
but a lot of them heard about Emmanuel and wanted
to hear what He was saying and see the amazing things He was doing.
Matthew
3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan.(the
river Jordan), confessing their sins.
They
wanted change to something better and believed in He who was to come after
John the baptist and that this Emmanuel was the something better.
Matthew
3:7 But when he saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation
of vipers who has warned you to flee
from the
wrath to come?
Matthew
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet.(word
'meet' means 'fit').for
repentance.(*).
One's fruits
involves how he thinks and that's shown by what he has done and.continues.doing.
.
Matthew
3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our
father. For I say unto you, that God is able of these stones.(Luke
19:40).to raise up children
unto Abraham.
Matthew
3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees. Therefore
every tree which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into
the fire.
Who
are they this verse speaks of?
Matthew
3:11 I indeed baptize you with water
unto repentance. But he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose
shoes I am not worthy to bear. He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost
and with fire..(what's
this mean?)
Matthew
3:12 Whose fan is in his hand and he will throughly purge his floor
and gather his wheat into the garner,
but he will burn up the chaff
with unquenchable fire.
Showing
that wheat and chaff do not have the same resonance
and that one is preferred above the other. It was the same in the past
when some were not allowed to go into the promised land and why:.Numbers
32:11-13; Zephaniah 2:3;
3:1,2.
John the Baptist
was saying that Christ, who was yet to show up, would do the the separation
that is, the good from the evil. More on this separation:.Jeremiah
8:3-9.
Matthew
13:30; 13:38-43; Hebrews
11:40.
Matthew
3:13 Then came Emmanuel from Galilee to Jordan unto John to be baptized
of him.
Matthew
3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you
and you come to me?
Matthew
3:15 And Emmanuel answering said unto him, Suffer.(original
means 'allow'').it to be so
now. For thus it becomes us to fulfil all righteousness.(*).
Then he suffered him.
Barned
Notes:."Thus
it becomes us".It
is fit and proper. And though you may feel yourself unworthy, yet it is
proper it should be done.
"All righteousness".There
was no particular precept
in the Old Testament requiring this, but Emmanuel chose to give the sanction
of his example to the baptism of
John, as to a Divine ordinance.
The baptism of Emmaneul would render
greater credence
to the work he was about to commence,
lest
any would ask if he was baptized.
Matthew
3:16 And Emmanuel, when he was baptized,
went up straightway out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened unto
him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon
him.
Matthew
3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This
is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..(?)
