Matthew 4:1 Then was Emmanuel led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

This was part of His coming to awaken the world to their saved status:.2Timothy 1:9; Emmanuel came to save the world (John 3:16,17) by awakening them to their true state, but He first had to have His ego tried in order to cement His character.

Matthew 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 

Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Dark side beings always try to get at you where they think you are the weakest. These dark side beings knew very well who He was:.Matthew 8:28-33. It was a way they goaded Him. There was no 'if' about it.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.(or, in other words, 'all that God is', so have it in your mind to learn about this as you go along in life).

Matthew 4:5 Then the devil takes him up into the holy city and sets him on a pinnacle of the temple,

Matthew 4:6 And said unto him.(note here that the devils are well aware of the scriptures), If.(the demons knew he was the Son of God; they knew there was no if about it, they were just doing what they always do, lie to get you to bend to them, just as they have lied to We the People for ages now, to get and keep control over us, how? Emmanuel didn't buy into their stupid little tricks; if he had it would have shown who was in charge here).you be the Son of God, cast yourself down. For it is written.(Psalms 91:11,12), He shall give his angels charge concerning you and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at anytime you dash your foot against a stone..(*)

Matthew 4:7 Emmanuel said unto him, It is written again, You shall not tempt God.(as the devil did in verse 6 above and in.Luke 4:3-9).

Don't be going headlong into life, oblivious to any guidance God brings to your mind and, you can be this way of blinded forward motion if you are hurling along in life at faster than an intelligent pace. Avoid being hasty:.Deuteronomy 6:16; Exodus 17:7.

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil takes him up into an exceeding high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, And said unto him, 

Matthew 4:9 All these things will I give you.(at this time they were the devil's to give, but Emmanuel knew he could have and do anything because He knew He was God; do you know we are equal with him?), if you will fall down and worship me.

Never 'sell your soul' to the devil.

Matthew 4:10 Then said Emmanuel unto him, Get you hence, Satan.(and where did the 'get you hence' send him to?.Luke 10:18), for it is written, You shall worship your God and him only shall you serve.

Matthew 4:11 Then the devil leaves him and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Matthew 4:12 Now when Emmanuel had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee.

Matthew 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim

Matthew 4:14,15 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet.(spoken by Isaiah here:.Isaiah 9:1,2; Matthew gives the sense of, though, not the exact words of what the prophet Isaiah was saying), saying, The land of Zabulon and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea beyond Jordan, Galilee.(map).of the Gentiles.

Matthew 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

Ephesians 5:14 "Wherefore he says, Awake you that sleep and arise from the dead and Christ shall give you light."

Matthew 4:17 From that time Emmanuel began to preach and to say, Repent.(what does this mean?), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 4:18 And Emmanuel, walking by the sea of Galilee saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers.

Matthew 4:19 And he said unto them Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

And the names of the other disciples who became apostles:.Luke 6:13.

Matthew 4:20 And they straightway left their nets and followed him.

Matthew 4:21 And going on from thence he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them.

Matthew 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed.(John 12:26).him.

They didn't just drop eveything and head away with someone they knew nothing of. They had earlier interaction with Emmanuel and prior to that probably knew well of John the Baptist's work. They didn't willy-nilly up and follow Him as though they were bewitched:.John 1:35-50; Luke 5:1-11; 6:39.

Matthew 4:23 And Emmanuel went about all Galilee.(map of Galilee in time of Christ), teaching in their synagogues and preaching.(original for 'preaching' is also 'publish', 'proclaim', all meaning reaching others with what he had to say).the gospel of the kingdom.(what it would be like for all in that kingdom).and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Matthew 4:24,25 And his fame went throughout all Syria and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers.(different).diseases and torments and those which were possessed with devils and those which were lunatick and those that had the palsy and he healed them. And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee and from Decapolis and from Jerusalem and from Judaea and from beyond Jordan.
